Woodruff 2017 - Leader Update (2/10/17)

If you are receiving this Leader Update, then you are registered for one of our 8 Boy Scout Resident Camp Sessions in 2017.

Wanted – Dedicated & Spirited Staff Applicants:

Woodruff employees more than 165 dedicated, trained and motivated staff members that are at camp in order to ensure that you and your Scouts get the best quality program and support that is possible.  If you have Scouts or Adults interested in becoming a part of the Woodruff Summer Camp Staff, ask them to apply for a position on this year’s camp staff. February 1st Payment:

A reminder that a payment of $100 per Scout is due by February 1st. This is in addition to the November 1st of $20 per registered Scout.  We will adjust your “registered Scout/Leader #’s (if there are questions, please contact us).  Looking for a financial commitment to ensure you are coming to camp beyond the deposit you initially paid) Note: Units not making their February 1st payment, will risk being dropped from camp.

Payments:

When sending in troop payments, be sure to use the payment form, so we can be sure your payments gets handled properly.

Camp Availability/Stats:

At this date, we have 237 troops, bringing approx. 6,000 Scouts and Leaders to camp.  Still looking to add some more.  We have good availability in weeks; 5, 6, 7 & 8.  Don’t forget the fees are discounted in those weeks!  

“Bring a Friend to Woodruff” (another unit):

There are financial incentives for your Troop/Unit if you assist us in recruiting your neighboring troops/units to attend Woodruff in 2017. These troops will need to attend Weeks #5-#8. Please contact Bion at Bion.Jones@Scouting.org to discuss. 

Venturing Extreme at Woodruff:

Climbing/Rappelling, Zip-lining, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Shooting Sports, Whitewater Rafting on Two Rivers, Horseback Riding, Mountain Biking, Hiking, overnight in our ENO Village, Ropes Courses, and Kayaking.   If these sound like fun, then consider signing up for Venturing Extreme at Woodruff - Ocoee Base Camp! 

Again for 2017 Woodruff will bring back our popular Venturing Extreme Camp. We would like you to consider bringing your Crew or one of your neighboring Crews to the mountains of North Georgia this summer. Venturing Extreme is designed for Venturing Crews to experience 6 days of fun, exciting, and challenging activities. The majority of Venturing Extreme is conducted at our offsite “Ocoee Base Camp”. Investment/Facility Improvements:
The Atlanta Area Council believes in investing in our camp properties, and in doing continuous improvements to our physical plant. A few of our new items of note for 2017:

  • Carlock Pavilion – Replacing the old circus tent are two large pavilions integrated into the dining hall porch. Lights, fans, Wi-Fi, and other features will make this a very popular area.
  • Hand Washing Stations (additional) – on Dining Hall Porch
  • Aquatics Climbing Wall (AquaClimb)
  • Wi-Fi for all ? Dining Hall
  • Info Kiosk ? Additional Camp Info Kiosk near Shower #2
  • Campsite Pavilion – Additional pavilion at Campsite #11
  • Hammock/ENO Camping Area – Brownsea Island
  • Camp Signage – Improved
  • Program Storage Building – Main Pavilion
  • On Demand Hot Water System – Added to Shower #1/#2
  • Staff Housing Improvements/Upgrades
